As Aviat’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Smith leads the advancement of the Company’s financial and operational performance, while strategically navigating through a rapidly evolving industry.
Mr. Smith has more than 25 years of leadership experience in business management and a proven track record of creating value for companies. He most recently served as Senior Vice President, US Windows and Canada for Jeld-Wen, where he had full profit and loss responsibility for Jeld-Wen’s $1B+ windows business, implementing lean manufacturing principles and strategic development programs to deliver growth and improved profitability. Prior to Jeld-Wen, he served as President of Polypore International’s Transportation and Industrial segment and oversaw transformative initiatives that helped prepare the former public company for sale to the Asahi Kasei Group. Previously, he served as Chief Executive Officer and a director of Voltaix Inc., until its sale to Air Liquide.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Smith held various executive leadership positions at Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, including Cooper Industries, Dover Knowles Electronics and Honeywell Specialty Materials. In these roles, his responsibilities ran the gamut of operations, sales and marketing, business development, and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Smith also served on the board of Soleras Advanced Coatings from 2015 to 2018. He has both a Bachelor of Science degree in Material (Ceramics) Engineering and PhD in Material Science and Engineering from Rutgers University, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Arizona State University.
As senior vice president of corporate development, Mr. McFall is responsible for marketing, strategic planning, identifying opportunities to advance technology innovation and developing growth through partnership development. Mr. McFall has been with the company since the formation of its UK subsidiary in 1989. His initial assignment was in new business development, first in the UK and later the European market. In 1994 he relocated to the company’s headquarters in San Jose, California, assuming responsibility for worldwide product marketing. He has accumulated over 20 years of experience in the wireless telecommunications industry, holding prior positions with two UK based companies: Ferranti International Signal plc. and GEC Telecommunications Ltd. Mr. McFall holds a bachelor of science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK.
Mr. Gustafsson joined Aviat Networks in 2013 and brings extensive experience in microwave and wireless technologies. As senior vice president, product and services portfolio management he is responsible for maximizing the business value of Aviat Networks’ product and service portfolio. Prior to joining Aviat Networks, Mr. Gustafsson spent over 20 years at Ericsson, where he had a strong impact on the development and design of several innovative microwave products. As Ericsson’s head of product line microwave and mobile backhaul, he developed and managed the roadmap and lifecycle for the entire Ericsson microwave, mobile backhaul and small cell backhaul portfolio. For more than 10 years Mr. Gustafsson was heavily involved in the definition, ramp up and management of the MINI-LINK™ microwave system. In addition, he managed the integration of Marconi microwave into Ericsson, where he delivered rapid alignment of several overlapping products and oversaw the restructuring of Marconi’s supply chain and operations. Mr. Gustafsson holds a Master of Science in electrical engineering (MscEE) from Chalmers University Sweden.
Mr. Kumar is senior vice president of International responsible for executing Aviat’s sales strategy in the region. He also provides executive leadership and strategic counsel that guide the activities in International to ensure revenue performance goals are achieved. In addition, he serves as the general manager for Aviat Networks’ international headquarters in Singapore. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Kumar was vice president, International Sales, for Aviat Networks. Overall, Mr. Kumar has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and wireless industries all across International region. Mr. Kumar holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communications engineering from India’s National Institute of Technology, Warangal. He has also studied under the master’s certificate program at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
As senior vice president of Global Operations, Mr. Tucker, since 2012, has had overall day-to-day responsibility for all Aviat Networks material sourcing and manufacturing operations. From 2005 to 2012, he served in a number of roles for Aviat Networks and its predecessor companies Harris Stratex Networks and Stratex Networks. For example, as senior director for North America Operations, Mr. Tucker spearheaded major transitions in ERP systems, product lines and operational locations. He also led the company’s post-merger systems unification with Harris Microwave Communications Division (MCD) in 2007. Before joining Aviat Networks, Mr. Tucker worked for Sony Corp. as director of Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance for two production facilities. Overall, Mr. Tucker has more than 24 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing operations with high-tech companies. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, is Six Sigma Certified and has pursued postgraduate studies/research in semiconductor physics at Georgia Tech.
Mr. Chang joined Aviat Networks in February 2016 and serves as the company’s senior vice president, corporate controller and principal accounting officer responsible for worldwide accounting, reporting, compliance and taxation. Prior to joining Aviat Networks, he served as senior director, corporate controller at Micrel, Incorporated from 2013 to 2016 until it was acquired by Microchip Technology. Mr. Chang served as senior director, assistant corporate controller and business unit controller at Atmel Corporation from 2007 to 2013. Mr. Chang was at Ernst & Young LLP from 2003 to 2007, most recently as senior audit manager, managing financial statement audits of public companies. Mr. Chang is a Certified Public Accountant in California and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Computer Information Systems from Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
As vice president of human resources, Mr. Sherrell is helping to accelerate Aviat Networks’ transformation through leadership, attracting and developing the best talent and building a culture of engagement, agility and accountability. Mr. Sherrell is an experienced talent leader with over 20 years in the Human Resources in telecom, pharmacy management, logistics and retail sectors. Prior to joining Aviat Networks, Mr. Sherrell held leadership positions in Premium Retail as Sr Director Talent for their Google initiative, Brinks Sr. Director Talent Management, Express Scripts, Director Talent Acquisition for U.S. Operations, Director of Talent Management and Corporate HR at Accredo Healthcare, a Medco Company and numerous progressive operations and HR roles at Nortel Networks. Mr. Sherrell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from the university of TN.
As Aviat’s Vice President for Legal Affairs, Ms. Boase will oversee all aspects of the Legal function.
Ms. Boase brings a depth of experience to the team in privacy, employment, compliance, real estate, M&A, as well as, copyright, trademark and other product, software, service and cloud-related legal matters. Her experience within the high technology area will strengthen our legal function as we position the company for growth.
Ms. Boase joins us from Lifesize, Inc. where she served as Head of Legal and Corporate Secretary. Prior to that she was the Senior Corporate Counsel at Cisco (formerly Duo Security, Inc.) where she managed the adoption of GDPR privacy compliance, development of company policies, copyright and trademark, technical compliance as well as other legal matters. Earlier in her career she held legal positions of progressive responsibility with Dell’s Computer and Security business and Thomson Reuters. Erin holds a Juris Doctorate, Technology and Communications and graduated Cum Laude from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Midwestern State University.
