Aviat Networks Relocates Headquarters Functions to Silicon Valley

June 16, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 16, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX News Network/ -- Aviat Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: AVNW), the leading wireless expert in advanced IP migration solutions, announced today that it has opened a new 128,000-square-foot facility at 5200 Great America Parkway in Santa Clara, California and will now be the location of its Corporate Headquarters. The relocation follows the company's global re-branding effort as Aviat Networks, Inc. formerly known as Harris Stratex Networks, Inc. The name change took effect on January 28, 2010.

Aviat Networks executives selected this particular facility due to lower operational costs and the willingness of DJM Capital Partners, the building owners, to meet the company's environmental needs. As a result, the facility was completely renovated to qualify for a Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council based on design and construction activities in each of the five LEED credit categories. Highlights of the renovation include the widespread introduction of "green" materials throughout the new space such as bamboo flooring and desks made from compressed recycled paper; the use of solar panel-powered carbon-free energy; and a physical location one block away from the Light Rail stop, in order to encourage employees to take public transportation. Additionally, the building construction was managed to leverage recycling and salvage which succeeded in diverting more than 95% of the waste away from the landfill.

"Over the last 20 years, Aviat Networks has built a solid reputation in Silicon Valley as a leader of high quality and innovative mobile wireless solutions. We have strong ties to the community which have been critical to our company's continued growth and success. As a leading hub for research, cutting edge technology and investment, we believe this is the best place to relocate our headquarters," said Harald Braun, CEO of Aviat Networks. "Moreover, now that we have a new brand identity as Aviat Networks, it's the perfect time to bring our employees together in a fresh, inspiring new environment."

Braun continued: "Once we made the decision to relocate, we were resolute about moving into a completely eco-friendly building that supported Aviat's commitment to the 'greening' of our company. Just as we strive to 'green' the world's telecom networks through our products and services, we take equal corporate responsibility for reducing the carbon footprint in our everyday workplace."

As part of its green initiative, Aviat Networks also led the Exploratory Group on Green, the task force for the Green Initiative of the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), to decrease the carbon footprint, increase the energy efficiency and reduce costs at telecom sites.

Highlights of Aviat Networks' New "Green" Facility

For its relocation, the company used a LEED consultant to maximize the use of environmentally friendly materials throughout the building, conserve energy and implement a plan for employee participation. The building renovation included the following eco-friendly alternatives:

  • Natural lighting - Installation of 144 new solar panels on the roof will provide 20% of the building's lighting requirement. Additionally, glass panels have been incorporated along the top of the workstations to leverage the natural light streaming in from numerous large windows throughout the building. LED lights will be used to illuminate entrances at night.
  • Energy efficiency - The company signed a contract with the city of Santa Clara to use 100% carbon-free energy (solar and wind); developed a low-energy server room; and added a new heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) unit which will allow a 20% reduction in energy through the use of a building management system for temperature control.
  • Sustainable materials - The lobby desk is made of recycled paper, compressed into a hard surface. More than 80% of the paper used within the building will be recycled as well.
  • Water-reduction - The bathrooms include water-efficient fixtures, toilets and sinks, and waterless urinals, which reduce water use by 40% compared to standard fixtures. Recycled water was used for landscaping to achieve greater efficiency and decrease water consumption.
  • Green commuting - Aviat Networks will implement a number of internal programs to educate employees on environmental efficiency in the workplace, and encourage the use of public transportation including bike storage, showers and changing rooms that will decrease car-based commuting.
